Skydiving carries a real risk of serious injury or death. AERIS products are made for licensed skydivers operating under the Basic Safety Requirements of the USPA or their national governing body — not as a substitute for training, certification, or judgment.
AERIS is a secondary altitude-awareness aid, not a primary instrument and not an automatic activation device. It does not deploy a parachute and must never be the sole basis for a deployment decision. Every skydiver is responsible for their own altitude awareness on every jump, by direct visual reference first. Any electronic device — including this one — can fail, read incorrectly, or go unnoticed amid the other things happening on a skydive.
Barometric altimeters read air pressure, not height. They convert pressure to altitude using a standard-atmosphere model that assumes a specific temperature at every level. Real air is often colder or warmer than that model, and on a colder-than-standard day the altimeter will read higher than you actually are — the same effect pilots are taught as "from hot to cold, look out below." The error grows with height above where the device was last zeroed. No barometric device, including this one, corrects for it, because it has no way to measure the temperature of the air column beneath you. If your aircraft's altimeter and jump-run call agree with your wrist altimeter, that agreement doesn't confirm either is accurate — both share the same blind spot.
Visual displays and any status lighting can affect your vision. Never position a light source directly in your line of sight. On night jumps or in low light, keep display brightness turned down to protect your own and other jumpers' night vision.
Battery & handling: AERIS devices are electronic and contain a rechargeable battery. Don't use a unit with a cracked or damaged case, charge it only from a standard USB source, don't leave it charging unattended, and keep it away from high heat. Never puncture or burn a unit — dispose of it and its battery per your local regulations.
Before every jump: confirm the device powers on and reads correctly before boarding. Pull a malfunctioning or damaged unit from service immediately. Don't open, modify, or attempt a repair yourself — doing so can introduce a hazard and will void the warranty.
